Palestine is no longer passe
Within a few weeks all the tickets were sold out of the Court of Session. We hired a great, historic Cooper Union hall, where the leader of the abolitionist movement, Frederik Douglass delivered his speech aljazeera en emancipation.
The session will be attended by over 900 people from all over the world. Last week a lot of people, including the well-known mejlami flooded us with a request for tickets. We could fill the place twice.
All American activists speak with one voice: "This is a historic aljazeera en event, a milestone for the Palestinian solidarity movement in the U.S.". Media hype around the Session, is amazing. It seems that even the mainstream press caught the bug, the Court session will be attended aljazeera en by: Time Magazine, Le Monde, Le Monde Diplomatique, the Swiss mainstream newspaper, The Nation, aljazeera en The Huffington Post, Democracy Now, Al Ahram, Al Jazeera Angielski and The New York Times.
In addition, many people have contacted us because aljazeera en they want to witness the event. In Session, attended by world-renowned French philosopher Etienne Balibar, Zwenlizima Vavi, one of the most respected and popular personalities in South Africa, Mariam Said, wife of Edward Said, even American actor John Cusack announced his presence.
Deep down I know that this is not all. I have a feeling that more and more people are joining the ongoing Palestinian struggle for decades for justice. "Palestine" is no longer a forbidden word - but it becomes a buzzword. To the members of our jury Alice Walker, Angela Davis, Roger Waters, Ronnie Kasrils, Michael Mansfield, Stephane Hessel, Mairead Maguire, Cynthia McKinney, John Dugard, Miguel Angel Estrella and Dennis Banks will soon be joined by many more celebrities.
Those who ignored the Palestinian call for boycott, they will find their place in history - will be remembered. aljazeera en People will remind them, "Hey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Madonna, where you were in 2012, when Palestinians were suffering from apartheid, oppression and colonialism?"
In the struggle for a free Palestine is not about the conflict between Jews and Muslims. The struggle for a free Palestine affects us all. Our humanity and what it represents. Applies to the world in which we live. Its history, present and future. Palestine applies to Greece and Spain. They change the name but the fight is the same. This is a fight for justice, dignity, freedom, respect, aljazeera en humanity, love - and that is exciting.
